Concrete Engraving is the process of cutting a pattern or design into the surface of the concrete. Cuts range in depth from 1/16 to 1/8 of an inch. This can be done either before or after the concrete is colored depending on the desired effect.

Yes, it is as permanent as the concrete is. The color is achieved through different types of stains. Some stains penetrate into the concrete and seal the surface, while others react to the minerals in the concrete to produce multi hued color variations that are unique to each application. The look you want, location of work and condition of the concrete will all help to determine the final products used. The engraving process removes the colored concrete and a little more material to give the look of a grout line. Then the job is covered with a clear sealer to make it even more durable.

The engraving will last as long as the concrete will, it is cut into the concrete itself. The clear sealer will become a "wear layer" and prevent most damage from reaching the concrete. The clear coat can be re-applied to give the surface a fresh look.

Interior floors should be damp mopped weekly. With a fresh coat of wax (depending on traffic) as needed. Exterior surfaces should be rinsed off with a garden hose to keep it clean and help keep abrasives off the surface. A new clear coat should be considered after 3-5 years (depending on traffic) to give the surface a fresh look.

The average job will take several days to complete. The size and type of job as well as the weather play a significant role in how long it takes to complete each job.
